AN INTERVIEW WITH JOEL SOUL THE THIRD (CONTINUED)
Being safe is difficult for you? Why is that?
It's not my nature. Maybe it works for Cosby and Seinfeld, but not for me. A PG world would be nice, but it's not my reality.
Where do you think your career is heading from here?
I have no idea. It's nice to be eating again. I used to be someone who would work for a handful of chocolate covered cockroaches.
Do you have a next step in mind?
I plan to continue doing what I love to do, performing. I am working on a comedy show to take on tour. It will start in the Spring of 20012 and open in Washington D.C.
Why D.C and not New York, L.A. or Chicago?
(laughs) I'm a Beltway Bandit kid! I grew up in the D.C. area. This area has symbolic and spiritual meanings for me. Also, the show is titled "Power." Can you think of a better place to start a show about power than in the most powerful city in the world?
"Power?"' That sounds like rather a serious title for a show that's meant to be humorous.
I can't think of anything funnier than power!
Why is that?
Well, my theory is it starts in childhood. We grow up watching cartoons, and... isn't that what cartoons are all about? Did you ever see the cat hit the mouse with a grand piano? That's physical power.... The mouse creates a dozen computerized traps to use on the cat's tail. That's brain power. My show is kind of like that, except the ideas are a little more worldly and hopefully, a bit more mature. My goal is that when people leave the show, they leave with a smile, as if they just watched a live, insane cartoon about the world, for big people.
